Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic first emerged in China in December 2019. COVID-19 has deeply affected interpersonal relations due to its practices such as social distance measures, uncertainty, risk perception and isolation. This situation causes stress, loneliness, depression, mental disorders, health hazards and a decrease in motivation in all areas. Work motivation is expressed as the desire that causes individuals to take action to meet the needs or achieve the determined goals. With the emergence of COVID-19, many practices such as closure of workplaces, maintaining interpersonal distance, isolating infected individuals, working from home are carried out to reduce the spread. This situation causes a great challenge for businesses on how to maintain employee motivation. It is stated that the level of COVID-19 anxiety will negatively affect employee motivation and it will be difficult to maintain employee performance with the effect of the negative emotion level. On the other hand, it is thought that with the awareness of COVID-19, emotions that will negatively affect work motivation will be experienced less. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of COVID-19 perceptions of hydrotherapy workers on their work motivation. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied to the employees of SPA businesses and hydrotherapy centers in Antalya where hydrotherapy is applied. COVID-19 Perception Scale and Multidimensional Job Motivation Scale were used to collect data. The data obtained with the questionnaire form were analyzed and interpreted with the SPSS statistical data analysis package program. Parametric tests, t-test and ANOVA, correlation and regression analyzes were applied to the data. As a result of the data analysis, while there was no difference in the work motivations of hydrotherapy employees according to age, gender, educational status, marital status, there was a difference according to the working years in the same institution and the working years in the sector. It is thought that the data obtained will contribute to the relevant literature.
