Abstract

Museums are among the elements of tourism supply that the interaction between culture and tourism is at the most intense level. Olive oil museum is one of the contemporary museum practices that emerged within the scope of sustainable tourism concept and focused on different cultural elements. The cultural value of olive and olive oil throughout the world gives olive oil museums a universal character than the others. In this study, the olive oil museums in Turkey are examined and the basic characteristics of the olive oil museum, products and services they offer, the activities they are involved in are evaluated. The study is concluded with some recommendations expected to bring originality and competitiveness to olive oil museums. Some of the recommendations are the designment of a certification system symbolized by olive or leaf in an olive branch and the development of olive routes by providing products and services in the form of packages or private tours including olive oil museums and compatible accommodation facilities.
