Abstract

This study aims to reveal that gugak (traditional Korean music) and ritual foods in Korea function not only as aesthetic practices but also as vital transmitters of cultural sustainability. Drawing on secondary data obtained from academic studies, cultural institution reports, and national archives published between 1991 and 2024, the research analyzes how music and food coexist and interact within ritual contexts such as ancestral rites, shamanic ceremonies, and royal court events. Through thematic content analysis, the study identifies symbolic meanings and sociocultural functions shared by these rituals. The findings highlight that both gugak and ritual cuisine continue to serve as active cultural agents linking the past and the present in contemporary Korean society.
