Euthanasia is a phenomenon that is frequently debated across various disciplines such as medicine, ethics, religion, law, and sociology, and it creates significant impacts at the societal level. The concept of euthanasia tourism is relatively new term in the literature, and its scope has yet to be clearly defined. A review of the literature indicates that there are two main motivations for individuals traveling with the intent to end their lives. The first involves traveling to end one’s life without any medical assistance. The second entails traveling to directly undergo euthanasia with professional support. These two types of cases are commonly addressed in the international literature under the term “suicide tourism.” These concepts are also reinforced under broader categories such as “death tourism,” “dark tourism,” and “medical tourism.” With the legalization of euthanasia in certain countries a new form of tourism known as “euthanasia tourism” has emerged. The aim of this study is to conceptualize euthanasia tourism, differentiate it from other types of tourism, and evaluate the legal regulations and boundaries associated with euthanasia services. This study introduces a new concept into the tourism literature, highlights the distinctions between ‘suicide tourism’ and ‘euthanasia tourism,’ and ultimately proposes a new definition of euthanasia tourism.
