Abstract

This study was conducted to determine individuals' internet addiction and recreational activity preferences. In this context, a five-point Likert-type questionnaire was created to determine internet addiction and recreational activity preferences. The questionnaire forms were applied by the researcher between 05 December 2019 and 27 February 2020 in the city center, city parks and public areas in the city center of Ankara. A total of 335 usable questionnaire forms were collected. As a result of the study, it was determined that the individuals' weekly leisure time was between 6-10 hours and the threshold levels of the internet addiction levels of the participants were determined. In this context, it was observed that the participants under the age of 24 had more free time compared to other age groups and it was determined that their activities were mostly passive activities. However, it was observed that the participants preferred their active recreational activities preferentially, mostly socio-cultural and extraterrestrial activities. It is thought that the rate of individuals' preferring active recreational activities will increase and the dependency levels of individuals will change by moving away from passive activity.
