Abstract

The purpose of this study, reveal the changes in the historical process of the leisure time paradigm and determine the relationship between leisure paradigm and Maslow’s Need Hierarchy. Therefore, political landscapes which occured in different stages of history, wars, religious phenomenas and belief systems were investigate according to their historical periods.. All of these events, impact on the evaluation form of leisure time varying according to age was analyzed and the relationship between the leisure time needs and hierarchy of needs was investigated. This study, adapted from the classification of society waves which has made by Toffler. According to the this classifications, the effects of “Agricultural Society Paradigm”, “Industry Society Paradigm” and “Information Society Paradigm” concepts to the leisure time forms were examined in chronological order. This study is important in terms of dealing with paradigm perspective and the hierarchy of needs to leisure concepts in historical process. After the study, based on the literature, it was determined to leisure activites had been loaded different meanings according to the age requirements and needs and leisure time needs linked with daily life was demonstrated compliance to different levels of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
